LSCC has always been at the top of British University Cycling, but we do not take this for granted and we continually invest in the club and its members and look for new ways to sustain our prominence nationally.

Example: Recently the Athletic Union purchased the club 4 Certini Track bikes to replace exisiting machines, we then duly won the Track Championships ending Manchester's 4-year reign as champions.

Loughborough becomes World Class Centre

This year [2001] Loughborough was nominated as one of five British performance centre's for cycling. Even at this early stage, it appears certain that the relationship will benefit both British Cycling and LSCC.

Women's Development Programme (WDP)

For the club, the recent major development has been the formation of the "Women's Development Cycling Squad". This is a unique project in British University Cycling and perhaps in Great Britain. We are aiming to provide bikes, coachesand facilities for women who have not necessarily had any previous cycling experience, but have a desire to succeed in sport.

We unashamedly aim to produce the top female team in university cycling and one of the top squads nationally. The two previous women cyclists to leave Loughborough are Sara Symmington (10th Sydney Olympics, 6th World Championships) and Denise Hampson GB Track team, former Loughborough Sports Scholar and now National 200m Sprint Champion.

If you are interested in becoming part of the Women's Programme or would like further information about this or any other scheme mentioned, please contact the Chairman or Women's Captain.

The club has already attracted funding from our Alumni, but we are still looking for further funding towards this and other projects. [Sponsoring/Donating towards Programmes] [WDP Sponsorship Factsheet]

Development Squads

The club aims to support a an Elite and Development Squad continually to help properly develop the athletes we have. The squad will have access to certain University facilites at a reduced rate and greater exposure to coaching. Through our relationship with High 5, the intention is to provide an "amount" of product to each rider each month.
