Our alumni are very important
to us, and since the turn of the Millenium we have been making a conscious
effort to keep in touch with former members. The club boasts an alumni including
Colin Sturgess (Former World Pursuit Champion), and many riders who reguarly
feature in some of the countries top races. The current generation of riders
should be no different, including Tom Barras who is racing on the continent
now after turning professional for the former Linda-McCartnery squad. Denise
Hampson (World Class Performance Plan) is now National Champion at 200m Sprint.
Multi-Gold BUSA medalist and 2001 Graduate Paul Watson will also be making
his bid for success as he starts racing on the continent next summer.
Last
May the club held a joint Alumni and Club dinner, the first of many we hope.
It is hoped to bring the dinner forwards to February next year.
An "Alumni" mailing list has recently been set up. To join the list, please send an email to the Club's committee lsu-lscc@lists.lboro.ac.uk. We are very keen to hear from people where they are now and what progress they have made sinvce leaving LSCC. This page will in future link to a "Hall of Fame", helping to demonstrate the accomplishments made by former riders.
The actual email address of the mailing list is: lsu-cycling-alumni@lists.lboro.ac.uk.
The mailing list will be used to inform people of the club's progress and to inform alumni of future social events. There has been a lot of interest in holding an alumni "reunion" with the rest of the club in the forthcoming year.
Friends of Loughborough Cycling (Alumni)
LSCC is
one of four club's to spearhead "Friends of Loughborough Sport.".
It is an initiative which encompasses Alumni, Sponsorship and other relationships
the club has. A Committee has been setup to administer the initial phase
of "Friends of Loughborough Cycling". The Committee can help provide
support when dealing with sponsors as they can add a touch of stability
compared to the constant flux of the actual club and they are also there
to help with amongst other things fundraising activities. The initial committee
is as follows:
Chairman of "Friends of Loughborough Cycling": James Lloyd
Vice Chair: Club Chairman (Leon Marshall)
Secretary: Club Secretary (Guy Lovett)
Club Representativer: (Club Treasurer) Blaire Bartholomew
Director of Sports Development Centre: Mr. Rod Thorpe
Sponorship and Alumni Relations Officer: Lisa Farmer
Mr. Ian Drake (Alumni)
Mr. Alan Staniforth (Alumni)
Mr. Nick Caton (Alumni and former Club Chair)
Mr. Geoff Cooke (Former National Track Manager and Club Track Coach)
|

"Friends of Loughborough Students' Cycling Club" has been setup this
year. The aim of this is to help fund the further development of the
club. This year we are raising an appeal to purchase a set of "development
bikes", which can be given to "athletes", particularly women, who have
never cycled before and coach them. There are tremendous opportunities
ton introduce women into competitive cycling as compared to the Men's
scene, the standard is relatively weak. We are also looking to increase
the support we give to our top riders by offering them Sports Massage
and Weights facilities.
Through "Gift Aid", if Alumni make a donation to the club through the University Development Trust, the club will receive that amount, plus a contribution from the Inland Revenue. Depending upon your earnings, the contribution from the Inland Revenue can form quite a considerable sum. [Donation Form] For instance, for every donation made, the Inland Revenue will donate 28% of the donation on top, at no extra charge to you. For further information, please contact James Lloyd or Lisa Farmer from the Alumni Development Office. |
